WHAT TO WEAR ON HOLIDAY

Summer Holiday Essentials

When it comes to dressing or packing for a sunny getaway it isn't as straightforward as it may first appear for men. If you're looking for a change from baggy shorts, vests and flip-flops, then you have come to the right place.

In this post I will run through what to pack for your summer holiday, making sure you stay sharp straight from the airport to the beach! Just make sure you have these 7 essential items ready in your suitcase and you will be good to go.

T-Shirts

Simple, yet not so obvious. Never underestimate the power of a plain tee. They can be worn all year around so it makes perfect sense to take a couple along on holiday. Make sure you invest in a high quality fabric material that fits well on the body too.

They are easy to style too, opt for plain white, beige, grey or navy and you've got yourself a piece that can work with a pair of chinos or shorts.

Printed Cuban Collar Shirts

Gone are the days when printed shirts were seen as the 'dad on holiday' shirts. They are a seasonal piece that has made a stylish resurgence in the past couple of years.

Cuban shirts are easy to style come day or night, they can be worn unbuttoned whilst having a stroll across the beach or layered over with a T-shirt with some tailored shorts or trousers for an evening setting.

Trousers

Although temperatures might be soaring, packing a pair of trousers is a must as you will encounter breezy evenings by the sea. Stay away from denim and opt for lightweight chinos or a pair of light smart trousers with a linen material.

Stick to neutral colours such as beige, navy,  light blue, khaki green or white. Furthermore, go for a slim fit rather than skinny to remain comfortable at all times.

Chino Shorts

Shorts are an easy piece to style, but so easy to get wrong. Chino shorts are the middle ground between sporty and smart trousers, they work with a simple tee or a formal shirt.

Stay away from wild colours or patterns, you want to opt for neutral colours again that will compliment the rest of your outfit.

Shoes/Trainers

Depending on the weather, sandals or walking shoes will be fine in the day, you'll need something smarter for evening wear, such as brogue shoes or loafers.

If shoes are not your thing then opt for a clean, white pair of trainers. Pair them with shorts and plain white tee, or dress them up with light chinos and a printed shirt.

Swimming Shorts

During your holiday you will want to take a dip in the pool, so you're going to need to invest in a good pair of swim shorts.

Unlike your day to day shorts, your poolside pair should be more colourful or with a subtle pattern. Make sure you stay away from speedos and baggy board shorts!

Accessories

Accessories can make or break an outfit, from sunglasses to a hat, watches and a few pairs of necklaces or bracelets, there are certain pieces every man is going to need to take with him.

When choosing sunglasses make sure they fit your face shape. You are visually aiming to lengthen your face, so choose glasses that are wider with dark frames.
