MENS WARDROBE ESSENTIALS
10 must have wardrobe essentials
Fashion is a fickle thing. Seasons change, trends flux and what’s “in” one day is “out” the next. Style, however, is a different matter. Despite the cyclical trends in fashion, certain men's clothing essentials such as a white button-down shirt, dark indigo jeans or a pair of white trainers will always keep you looking fresh, no matter the time or year.
Here I will go through 10 must have essentials for any man’s wardrobe!
1) T-shirts
It's important to keep things minimal when it comes to your t-shirts. So, stick to your solid colours - your blacks, whites, navy or grey and try to stay away from pattern t-shirts, rolled up sleeves or t-shirts with pockets. Remember it's all about being minimal as possible.
There are so many ways you can style up a black or white tee, they literally go with anything whether it’s a pair of shorts, trousers, jeans or even a smart blazer!
2) Black Jeans
If you do not own a pair of black jeans you're definitely missing out! When buying black jeans, you want to make sure they are solid black and not faded. If you don't like wearing black jeans then opt for indigo jeans but again make sure they're solid and not washed.
If you opt for a faded colour then you will find it harder to style with your outfit and if you're already somebody who struggles to in regards to styling then it would not be the best option to choose!
3) White Trainers
White trainers are so versatile with any outfit you wish to pair it with. They go well with a pair of black jeans, blue jeans, trousers, chinos even a suit! White trainers are something every man should invest in.
Just make sure you keep them clean after every use. I usually clean mine with a wet wipe and this keeps your trainers looking clean and fresh! The last thing you want is your outfit to be on point but be wearing dirty white trainers!
4) White Shirt
Invest a bit of extra money into a classic white shirt and you’ll reap the rewards. It is essential you have one ready in your wardrobe since you don't know when you'll need it. You could end up going on a date, a wedding or a night out with the lads!
If you're going on a night out you can pair it with black jeans, white trainers and a denim or leather jacket for that casual vibe. Or for the smarter look wear it with a blazer and pop on a pair of Chelsea boots.
5) Sweaters
Wearing a sweater gives you more of the sophisticated, formal look. Crew neck sweaters are awesome, especially if you want to wear them with a coat or a blazer.
However, if you opt for a V-neck sweater then you can pair it with a shirt and a tie with the sweater thrown on top. Choosing these small details will make you stand out from the crowd and it will show that you took effort in choosing your outfit!
6) Casual Blazer
Having a casual blazer ready in your wardrobe is great, especially if you don't like wearing suits. It can easily be dressed up or dress down.
If you want to dress it down you can wear a pair of jeans, with a sweater or t-shirt and the blazer on top or if you want to dress it up, then you can wear a pair of smart chinos or trousers with a plain shirt and a blazer.
7) Navy Trousers/Chinos
Versatility is the key when building your essential wardrobe and navy trousers offer exceptional wardrobe versatility. They are so versatile that you can dress them up with a pair of loafers, smart shirt or t-shirt or you can dress them down and wear them with a pair of white trainers and a denim jacket.
8) Dress Shoes
Every guy needs at least one pair of dress shoes in his wardrobe. In my opinion monk shoes are the best dress shoes to opt for rather than lace up shoes. They look great paired with a suit or a pair of jeans. Dark brown or black is the colour to opt for when picking out your dress shoes as they are a lot easier to pair compared to your tan, beige, grey etc.
It would also be useful to invest in a pair of loafers, they are great to wear during the summer months with a suit and also look great with smart trousers, shorts or jeans.
Chelsea boots is also another shoe that I feel every guy should at least test out. It's such an easy shoe to style, pair it with trousers or any colour jeans slim or skinny. Overall, it gives a bit of edginess to your style!
9) Turtleneck
Although a turtleneck is most likely not classed as a basic piece of clothing it is still something I would recommend to have in your wardrobe. I love turtlenecks and they are my favourite piece of clothing to wear during the autumn/winter months.
Overall, turtlenecks are so stylish and versatile that they complement your outfit regardless if you're dressing them up or down.
10) Suit
Last on the list is a suit. Every guy SHOULD have a suit in their wardrobe! To start with make sure you opt for a navy or black suit as they can be styled fairly easily.
Furthermore, when you purchase your suit make sure that it fits you well. If it doesn't fit you the way you want it then make sure you invest a little money to get it tailored. As the quote states "A tailored suit is like lingerie to women"
